Grief

Losing a loved one

Grief is often too hard to deal with alone.

Those who have recently experienced the loss of a loved one might say to themselves:

“I wish my son/daughter was still alive; life is not the same.”

“What could I have done differently?”

“Did I miss the signs?”

“They completed me, and I can’t go on without them”.

Processing grief and finding a way to move forward can be incredibly difficult, especially if someone doesn't have the proper support.

For many, after experiencing the loss of a loved one, or someone with whom they were close, depression can set in, and even day to day activities can become incredibly difficult.

For some, it feels like all the joy has been removed from their life; they no longer seem to gain pleasure from the things which they once enjoyed.

Oftentimes, they know they need to move on, but don’t know how, and maybe feelings of guilt are stopping them from their attempts to move forward.

Many are even plagued by asking themselves, what more they could have done, or wondering if they were too busy and didn’t pay enough attention to their loved one before passing.

Loss can also put a strain on a relationship.

Couples who face the loss of their child experience a set of unique challenges.

The loss often takes a toll on the relationship. Many times, the support which they look for in one another is not there, so they feel alone at such a difficult period in their life.

One person in the relationship might feel judged or attacked by the other; or maybe one of them is blaming the other for the loss.

Whatever the specific struggles may be, such a devastating loss can cause a rift in a relationship.

This rift, if left unaddressed, can often inflict irreparable damage to the bond between a couple, and result in the end of the relationship altogether.

In such a difficult period of life, when facing such struggles, grief therapy can help re-establish the bond between a couple that is struggling with loss, and help each individual process their grief in a safe and healthy manner, ultimately allowing them to move forward to a better future.
